Preclinical permanent magnet-based field-free line magnetic particle imaging scanner
About
Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) is an emerging tomographic imaging method based on the interaction of time-varying magnetic fields and (superpara-) magnetic nanoparticles (MNP). The method is characterized by a high spatial and temporal resolution and also enables quantifiable images of the contrast agent concentration as well as additional information from the particle environment such as temperature or viscosity. In combination with the functionalizability of MNP, this technique, which is completely free of ionizing radiation, offers great potential for biological, medical and pharmacological issues.
Opportunity
The application of molecular imaging enables scientists and physicians to functionally visualize, characterize and quantify biological processes at the cellular and subcellular level. This can ultimately lead to improved patient outcomes through the development of more personalized diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
Solution/Product description
Designed for research questions in the fields of MPI development and molecular imaging, the “Kolibri” MPI scanner with field-free line offers a space- and energy-efficient solution for tomographic imaging of samples up to a diameter of 38mm. This scanner provides submillimeter resolution and increased sensitivity due to its geometry. By combining a freely adjustable excitation (DF) and focus field (FF) with an adjustable rotation speed, unique field sequences can be generated.
The scanner is designed for a variety of applications, including sample testing, characterizing the suitability of MNP for theranostic applications, performing component testing and verifying applications and methods.
