Precision to the Core – Non-Destructive Testing
At Fraunhofer IMTE, computed tomography (CT) tests are carried out according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. Additively manufactured components and materials are analyzed with micrometer precision to specifically improve quality, safety, and manufacturing processes.
Fraunhofer IMTE offers an accredited testing laboratory for non-destructive material testing in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018. The focus is on computed tomography (CT) testing, which allows for a micrometer-precise representation of the internal structure of materials and products—without physically damaging or altering them.
Particularly for additively manufactured components made from metallic and non-metallic materials, CT technology provides significant advantages: internal defects, shape deviations, delaminations, or inclusions can be detected and documented in detail. This not only supports quality assurance but also enables targeted process optimization in product development.
In the medium term, the range of accredited testing services will be expanded to include mechanical material tests such as compression, tensile, and bending tests. This will create a comprehensive testing competence from a single source—specifically tailored to the challenges of additive manufacturing processes in medical technology.
