HOSPIBOT

Modern robotic solutions for medical care

About

HospiBot is a German-Danish research project to develop smart assistance robots for hospitals. The aim is to relieve medical staff of routine tasks such as transportation, greeting or security patrols. The robots are developed together with hospitals and tested directly in day-to-day care. HospiBot promotes human-centered robotics that free up nursing staff and provide patients with emotional and practical support.

Opportunity

The acute shortage of skilled workers in the care sector is coming up against an ageing society with a growing need for care. Nursing staff are overworked and trivial tasks tie up time and energy. HospiBot addresses this problem with flexible robotic solutions that take over non-nursing activities and thus create more space for attention and medical quality - a forward-looking contribution to relieving the burden on healthcare systems.

Solution/Product description

HospiBot is developing different types of robots: a greeting robot for children's hospitals, a transport robot for documents and samples and a patrolling security robot with heat sensors and an emergency signal function. In close cooperation with hospitals, the systems are tested in practice and iteratively improved. Particular attention is paid to human-friendly interaction - through facial expressions, speech and user-centered interface design.

Why Us

With partners from science, clinics and industry, HospiBot combines expertise in robotics, usability, medical technology and human-robot interaction. Fraunhofer IMTE contributes its expertise in the healthcare sector, while UXMA, Blue Ocean Robotics and Giobotics stand for technical excellence. Thanks to European Interreg funding, robotic solutions are being developed that are suitable for everyday use, empathetic and data-saving at the same time.
