In the field of instrumentation and device technology, Fraunhofer IMTE develops innovative mechatronic systems, imaging techniques, and intelligent devices for diagnostics, therapy, and rehabilitation – from the initial idea to a functional prototype.

In the field of instrumentation and device technology, Fraunhofer IMTE develops electronic, mechatronic, and hardware systems for imaging techniques, robotic applications, and rehabilitation solutions. Starting with imaging technologies, the thematic spectrum has been continuously expanded – including robotic instruments, micro-robotic devices, and novel theranostic applications.

A key focus is the integration of imaging and therapy to enable combined diagnostic and treatment solutions. Technologies such as Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI), free-arm X-ray systems, and hardware sequencing programming for magnetic resonance imaging are currently being researched and implemented.

Through the interdisciplinary combination of physics, electrical engineering, mechanics, and signal processing, the foundation is laid for innovative medical technology developments. These include intelligent devices for physiotherapy as well as modular robotic platforms. Collaboration with the additive manufacturing research platform also opens up new potentials in the area of personalized medical instrumentation.
